The Danish University, Technical University of Denmark (DTU) was founded in 1829 by the H.C. Ørsted, who discovered electromagnetism. Today DTU is a leading university in the areas of the technical and the natural sciences. In 2020 DTU was ranked as the second-best university in the world and number one in Europe by the World University Research Rankings. World University Research Rankings is based on seven indicators covering three key aspects of research performance: Research multi-disciplinarity, research impact, and research collborative-ness. The indicators are based on publications in Web of Science/InCites (Clarivate Analytics) in a 9 year period.
International recognition after assessment
DTU has recently received another international recognition. International representatives from the world’s leading universities within environmental technology have done an assessment of the environmental engineering programme of DTU. In the assessment, the education in environmental engineering is being described as “unique” and “perhaps the best in the world”
The international evaluation also emphasizes that environmental engineers contribute to solving some of the major challenges: ensuring clean drinking water, dealing with pollution, recycling our resources and come up with solutions to deal with consequences of climate change.
Consequences of climate change
And something has to be done. Climate change is a very serious threat. According to the European Commission climate change affects regions around the world; the seas is rising because of the polar ice melting, extreme weather with high temperatures that courses wildfires, heavy rainstorms that courses floods etc.
New engineers with a master in environmental engineering will therefore in the future be in even higher demand.
